Chrome, the Web browser launched by Google Inc. this week, has had a "very strong" reception with several million downloads, according to Eric Schmidt, the search giant's chief executive officer.
Mountain View, Calif.-based Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) said Chrome lets users run many applications that once worked only when installed on a local personal computer.
Schmidt, talking at an economic conference in northern Italy, said Chrome has drawn "many, many millions of downloads, (a) very favorable response so far."
